Another Interview
So my big sister shares my obsession...she actually is the one who got me interested.
The following is a portion of my interview with her...Enjoy!
E: When did you realize that you were first into celebrity gossip?
L: Probably at the beginning of college, so 4 ½ years ago.
E: Was there any event that sparked that?
L: No, I just spent a lot of time online and discovered people.com.
E: Well, I don’t know if you know this, but when I get up, I check people.com, and then usmagazine.com
L: Me too…
E: and then Perez. And I didn’t know if you had any routine?
L: I do the same thing every time I am on the computer. I check people.com. Then I check Usmagazine.com. Then I go to Perez and sometimes if something big is happening I look at TMZ.com
E: Oooh, that’s pretty good.
L: But Star magazine.com is awful.
E: Ya, it’s not good.
L: The worst.
E: It’s really dated. Life and Style is not that exciting either.
L: I haven’t looked at Life and Style.
E: Not really worth it. So how often do you check the websites throughout the day?
L: Probably three times a day.
E: I would say that mine is three to every time I’m on the computer. But to a point…they only update the news and the websites until…
L: Ya, I check it whenever I get online to check my email. So at least once usually a day. If I’m doing homework in the middle of the day, I’ll check it. And then usually after class I’ll check it. So three times pretty consistently.
E: Do you like to look at any magazines?
L: Ya, I look at about a million. I look at US, I look at People. I look at STAR. I look at In Touch.
E:How much do you think you spend on magazines. I think Kristen and I were talking and we thought they cost three or four dollars a piece.
L: Well, I have a subscription to US which was a gift…
E: You’re welcome…
L: And I renewed that so I think that was a dollar an issue so fifty-two dollars a year for that. Plus I always buy one other magazine maybe two a week. So like another six or eight dollars depending on the week.

Two Birds with One Stone...

So you might be thinking that celebrity gossip is over-rated. I respectfully disagree and believe that reading celebrity gossip can kill two birds with one stone. You can learn about newsworthy happenings while also enjoying some juicy celeb stories.
For example...let's take the upcoming elections and which celebrities endorse which candidate...
Team Barack supporters include: Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Matt Damon
Team Hilary supporters include: Jack Nicholson, Steven Spielberg,
Team McCain supporters include: Tom Selleck, Arnold Schwarzeneggar

Paparazzi of The Quarter
Why Celebrity Gossip?
The only answer that I can think of is that it serves as an escape. When I have midterms, papers, and stresses that go along with being a student, I need something to get my mind off all of it and relax. For some people, this might come in the form of a bubble bath, reading trashy romance novels, or listening to music.
My outlet to get away is to read as much celebrity gossip as possible. I know this may seem silly to many people out there, but it is a legitimate interest. It makes me not think about my own stresses and to watch celebrities' unfold. The internet has definitely made my addiction much easier to feed. With websites being updated so frequently, there is a newfound desire to be the first to know about celebrities and who broke up, is making up, or is pregnant!
Friends Don't Let Friends Fall Behind With Celebrity Gossip...
As all friends share interest, mine are no different. The following is part of an interview with a good friend Kristen regarding her obsession and routines with celebrity gossip.
Erin: Do you have a routine with celebrity gossip because I know that when I get up in the morning I check
Kristen: Yea, People is definitely the most reliable. I definitely do every Friday buy the new magazines and read them cover to cover by Friday evening. I read them when I work out and I read every quote, every subtitle, basically I read it all.
Erin: Which magazines do you like to look at?
Kristen: US Weekly is my favorite partly because a DG is an editor of it so that really got me hooked. Definitely US Weekly but People is more reliable but I hate the info on books and movies and T.V. shows.
Erin: It’s a waste of pages.
Kristen: Exactly. I just flip through that. That’s one thing I don’t read. So besides that…

Celebrity Gossip - Good for the Economy?

Is Celebrity Gossip A Joke?
I think that this is one of the reasons that I am interested in celebrity gossip and why addiction is unavoidable. It starts as a simple interest. The more absurd things you hear, the more curious you become. You HAVE to find out if the vicious rumor is true! Could it be true that Jennifer Lopez is pregnant with twins (YES) and who is the baby daddy of 16-year old Jamie Lynn Spears?

You know you are an addict when...
Know that you are not alone. Many people spend time learning all about their favorite celebrities. Do not be ashamed...many people share your same interest!
